When I need a break from murder and mayhem books, I enjoy a nice romantic comedy novel. This was a novella but it qualified for me.A girl loves her Grampa. It is that simple. I would say she is joyfully devoted to him. As the book progresses you, the reader, realizes that he, and his deceased wife, were the main structure to her family while growing up. In fact, one of my (5 star) moments was when the Mother comes to the wedding. I did not like her a bit.
So, when Grampa has only one wish before he dies (and yes, he is dying,) she has to honor it and slips up and says, 'I'm engaged.' Oh boy. Predictable, yes, but hooks you all the same.
Who has she chosen for a mate? Why, her handsome Boss, of course. He is pretty stellar alright, but does have a flaw...a curse. Women lead to the men in his family's downfall...just look at his Father who has some form of mental illness. Evan, his name is great even...Evan is terrified of marriage. Predictable, but, how is this going to reach the altar?
Well, I'm not going to tell you how Emma Wiggins and Evan Fletcher reach the altar....you will just have to read it yourself.
Now, in regards to the editing etc. I downloaded this book a long time ago. Then was unable to use my Kindle, for medical reasons, now I can. Yes, there were blank pages, and letters just out alone, but, I'm hoping by now that has been corrected. I can remember when Kindle was a brand new concept and authors were trying their best to learn how to use it. So, I ask your patience and you will find a great little read.

An Unexpected Bride The Bride Series Book 1 edition by Shadonna Richards Romance eBooks Reviews
I am not sure what the author of this novel hoped to achieve with such an underdeveloped story. The character's feelings were repetitious, there were pages of what the hero and heroine liked or disliked, especially about New York, but no real attempt to build character or any real rapport between them. She is gorgeous/he is gorgeous, she is breathtakingly beautiful in a wedding dress, he's really ripped. That's about it. The story of why Evan is against marriage was unconvincing to say the least! A "curse" for goodness sake. There is no real explanation as to why Evan changes his mind about the wedding.
I found myself skimming the pages - many with formatting errors - trying to find substance to this plot. The abrupt ending felt as though the author was desperate to get out of the manuscript.
Even in the genre of light romance, this was a right twit of a tale.
Enjoyed every word of the book, from the beginning to the end. Can't wait for the next book and the ones after that.
It got one star because that was the least I could choose. Poorly edited..if at all. repetitive....author apparently does not know many words and has never heard of a thesaurus. Leading male character unbelievable...or at least not as a male. I think the author may not know many men...and less about travel within the U.S.. Do not waste your time or your money. What was contained in 20 or so chapters was said in half the first one. After that, it was just repeat, repeat, repeat.
I enjoyed this book very much, the story flowed easy but kept my attention. Fairytale romance and the ending that all romantics want and desire
I was interested in how both main characters(Emma and Evan) had people in their lives (grandfather and father)whose health conditions were causes for the different attitudes toward the impromptu wedding. Characters were well formed and the text moved along smoothly. This was a fun story...until
SPOILER ALERT!!! I was happily reading along and then the story just ended. All the groundwork laid for at least two characters was for naught. What happened to Evan's father? What happened with Emma's mother? If the reader didn't get to find out resolutions with these characters, then why introduce them for the readers to become interested in them? Why did Evan change his mind about going through with the wedding? What caused Evan to change his mind about the "Fletcher Curse"?
I will check out other books that Ms. Richards wrote in anticipation of a good read.
This reads like a rough draft. It's stiff, unpolished and lacks a good proof read. If it'd been a paper back instead of a , I'd have scribbled red ink all over it. The idea is excellent. The plot follows a logical path. The characters are developed nicely. The scenes are fleshed out to paint a lovely mental image. It just needs a serious clean up before going to the publisher.
Just could not fall in love with this book. Too perfect characters, too detailed on things that added nothing. A story with unrealized potential. I did not finish it so perhaps the last quarter redeemed the overall work.
