Bewitched Bothered and Biscotti A Magical Bakery Mystery Bailey Cates Books

Katie Lightfoot is a hedgewitch and the owner of Honeybee Bakery where all the baked goods are infused with magic to improve her customers’ lives. Katie is involved with two men. Declan is a firefighter who has no magical ability. Steve is a hereditary member of an exclusive men’s magical group.

The book starts when Declan and Katie find a corpse while on a picnic in Johnson Square Park. Katie gets involved with solving the murder.

There are several interesting twists to the story. I enjoyed the characters including her nosy neighbor, Margie. This book is part of a series but works well as a standalone. If you like cozy mysteries with a paranormal flair and clean romance, you should give this series a try.

Bewitched Bothered and Biscotti A Magical Bakery Mystery Bailey Cates Books Reviews

This novel is a murder mystery within the magical lives of baker Katie Lightfoot. As Katie strives to learn the full extent of her own magical 'powers,' she also tries to balance her personal life with the non-magical world. This is not easy and it finds her having to make choices in her love life.

While on a 'date,' Katie and firefighter Declan McCarthy discover a body in the square. Not only is that horrible, but the body is sporting a magical tattoo. No one wants to identify the victim and Katie quickly realizes that something is going on.

A new detective on the police force also has the community on alert. Katie and family/friends must join together with others to solve this murder and more.

A good solid murder mystery, cozy and paranormal. This is the second book in the series.
I am a true Cates fan after only these two books. I hope she can write many more. I love her premise of a secret coven of witches from a Lawyer to bakery owners who meet up to do good magic in Savannah. Cates books always keeps you hungry as she has the characters spend a great deal of time in the Honeybee Bakery and describing in detail what they are cooking. However, this book had a lot less recipes and much more dark magic. A lot of mystery coupled with charm and its another hit. Although, I will say if you are frightened at all at the thought of dark magic you may not like this book, but always recognize white magic prevails in the end. ) I love the details she includes about types of witchs and how they practice differently. It's actually a great education mixed with fun. Oh and a pending love story in the background. Once you know who everyone is and who is good and on what side, you are set up perfectly for the next mystery in Savannah for them all to solve. Hurry up Bailey!
I really enjoyed this book and about halfway through I was hooked and read the rest of the book in one sitting. I really enjoyed the character development, the overall magical developments were interesting, and the new detective definitely added mystery that I didn't figure out before the end. Well-written and a good read.

But I hated the ending -- the magical scene was a little out there, the new revelation about Katie's magic didn't add a lot for me, and the resolution of the love triangle that I wasn't overly fond of in this book (it was totally fine in the first book) was lame. 2 whole books devoted to a love triangle to end it with a one-liner that to me wasn't consistent with the rest of the character development. I am really glad I read this book and the first, but I'm done with the series.
The 2nd of Bailey Cates's "Magical Bakery Mysteries", "Bewitched, Bothered, & Biscotti" advances us 6 months from the initial book & starts off within the 1st 5 pages of having baker Katie Lightfoot stumble onto a dead body while she's having lunch. From there a mystery ensues as she discovers a secret society of 6 within Savannah's history which has a bit of a grudge. Cates's story is actually very easy to read & does a decent job with continuing to fill in the back story of these characters. The mystery has enough twists & turns to keep you interested right up through the climactic finale which as these new series have been doing leaves room for growth in the next installment
This is the second time that I am reading this series. It is wonderfully written and a real page turner. The author weaves a magical story of cozy mystery, romance and baking! The food sounds wonderful, the characters are relatable and it's a fun, easy read. I'd definitely recommend for a lazy afternoon of enjoyable reading.
Since I enjoyed the first Magical Bakery Mystery, I decided to read the next one to see if I would still enjoy the characters and setting. I love coming "home" to books that have a continuation of characters, locations and even themes. I find it comforting. So much so that I just want to sink in and stay there awhile.

Katie is back with another mystery to solve and so are all the characters from Bailey Cates' first novel. This time we are given the opportunity to really get to know more about the guys in the book and why one of them shares a special kinship with Katie.

Now it's not like Katie has to solve anything, but if she didn't there would be no book. Move of her heritage is discovered and just a bit more of her parents is revealed.

So while Katie is learning more about who she is and how to deal with it, she has to figure out what's going on and pretty fast before things get out of hand. She will have help from her two male friends as well as her newly adopted coven and of course her Aunt Lucy and Uncle Ben. And let's not forget about Mungo! I wish I had a dog like him!

The author wasted no time in getting right to it and somethings I like that while others I do not. In terms of a mystery though, you need to get there pretty quickly, otherwise you'll lose the audience. Let's remember one thing though, not every book will be for every person. So while there are some readers out there that won't like this, there will be others that will. These types of mysteries are meant to be fun, cheeky and a stress reliever from life.
